About the Project / Scheme

Government of India decided to introduce Hepatitis B vaccine in Universal Immunization Programme during 2002 -2003 in (Phase IA) Pune Municipal Corporation & Bruhanmumbai Municipal Corporation in selected slum areas.. During 2003-04 (Phase IB) Districts Satara, Ratnagiri & Chandrapur have been selected. During 2004-05 the whole areas of PMC & BMC included for Hepatitis B coverage. Global Alliance for Vaccine & Immunization (GAVI) & other donor agencies are supporting this programme.

Special Features

	In addition of the introduction of new vaccine the project proposes to introduce new technologies for injection administration. Auto disable syringes (AD), which allow only a single use, will be utilized or administering all injectable vaccines in the selected cities/districts.
	For the project Monovalent Hepatitis B vaccine will be used. This will be supplied in 10 dose vials.
