Public Health Institute (PHI), Nagpur is the Apex-training institute of Maharashtra. PHI was established as per GR No. PHI/ 1057(B) dated 9th February 1959. It has technical as well as administrative control over the seven Regional Health and Family Welfare Training Centers in the State of Maharashtra.
Public Health Institute, Nagpur is situated at about 5 Km from Railway Station, Airport & Bus station. Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra is a cosmopolitan city. Centrally located and well connected with all the metropolitan cities and other major cities of India by road, railway and air. Better known as the ‘Orange City’, Nagpur is one of the cleanest cities of India and a recipient of ‘City Award’.

There are seven fully functional Health & Family Welfare Training Centers (HFWTC)in Maharashtra located at Amravati, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nasik, Pune and Thane under the technical supervision of Public Health Institute.
1. ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACADEMIC BLOCK:
FACILITIES AVAILABLE ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACADEMIC BLOCK.
The modern building provides the faculty and trainees, a conducive environment for work and training. Administrative block includes chambers for Principal, Professor, Senior Lecturer, Junior Lecturer, Medical Officer, Administrative Officer, Assistant Superintendent, Health Supervisor, Statistical Investigator, Ministerial Staff, Faculties and Drivers etc. Academic block includes Lecture halls, Conference hall, Computer room, Meeting hall, Class room, Library etc. The institute is on the first floor of the main campus building.
Conference Hall
There are two hi-tech conference halls which are fully air-conditioned viz. "Manthan" and "Chintan" with capacity of 30-40 and100 participants respectively. It also has one of the most modern acoustic and lighting arrangements. Moreover, the halls are also equipped with the modern audio visual training aids.
TOT Hall
There is one training cum meeting hall with the capacity of 40-50 participants which is utilized for state level TOT and is fully air conditioned with all the modern facilities.
There are two class rooms, each with a capacity of 40–50 participants which are utilized for conducting MPW classes. Computer Lab One fully air conditioned computer lab with 15 computers available with internet, scanning and printing facility.
Following audio visual equipment are available and in use in the institute:
LCD Projectors, TV Sets , VCR/ DVD Player, Over Head Projector, PA system, Digital camera etc
Library
A library with more than 3500 books and periodicals on various disciplines in health is available in the institute. Books available are mainly reference books on Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Preventive and Social Medicine, Management, Communication and Training related modules etc. There are also national and international journals. The documentation and bibliographic services of the library are in the process of computerization.
Dining Hall One dining hall with kitchen facility is available in the institute. It caters the needs of breakfast, lunch and dinner for the participants.
Store Room
Separate store rooms are available for consumable, dead stock and records in the administrative building. Reprographic centre
Facilities available are photocopying, scanning with high speed printer, duplicating and binding.
Hostel
New multistoried hostel building is situated in the Mata Kacheri campus, near the building of HFWTC, Nagpur. Following facilities are available.
