Mode of Transmission
Yaws
is transmitted by
· Direct contact: That is by contact with
secretions from infectious lesions.
· Fomites: Yaws may
also be transmitted by indirect contact . The organism may remain
alive on fomites or on the earthen floor in hot and humid conditions
long enough to cause infection.
· Vector: There is some
evidence that small flies and other insects feeding on the lesion
may possibly convey the infection mechanically for brief periods.
Transplacental, congenital transmission does not occur
