Who is commonly affected

Any personnel coming in contact with the causative agents is likely to be affected with the disease.
All age groups & both sexes are affected (except exclusively breastfed babies).

Cases are being reported from urban & rural area.
The vibrio is destroyed in an acidity of pH 5 or lower. Conditions that reduce gastric acidity may influence individual susceptibility
Movement of population (e.g. pilgrimages, marriages, fairs and festivals) result in increased risk of exposure to infection.
The incidence of cholera tends to be highest in the lower socio economic groups and this is due to poor hygiene.
