Important indicators
Mean age at marriage : Although legal age of age at marriage for girls is 18,
significant marriages still take place below this legal age. Mean age at
marriage as per National Family Health Survey I is 16.1 years for Maharashtra,
which has improved to 16.7 years
in 98-99.

Total Fertility Rate : As per SRS data, TFR of state is showing slow decline
over a period of 10 years. It was 3 during 1991 & reduced to 2.5 in the
year 2000.
